What Will Happen To The Europeans?

What is probably not common knowledge is that I initiated the project The Europeans in 2011. As a celebration of Henri Cartier-Bresson, who in 1955 made a book with the same name. The project is to run to 2015. That is right around the corner.

A project group, The Europeans, was set up on Facebook in 2011 to take mainly street photographs from all European countries. You can visit the country albums here.

That group is indeed still existing but I had to swop platform for flickr a few years later since the stability and logistics for this kind of work, simply are too lousy on Facebook. This very morning I tried to access the Italian album and found it to be impossible.

Instead, I made about 50 separate country albums on flickr. They are maintained with selected admins: Lara Kantardjian and Elisabeth Maurice.

Four times a year one of the best album is celebrated on doc! photo magazine. The next country to be celebrated is Italy. That will happen in October 2014.

Italy may well be the last country to be celebrated. The Europeans runs to 2015 when it is 6o years since Cartier-Bresson’s book was published in France. We want to sum up the project in the beginning of 2015.

What will happen to the many groups and albums on Facebook and on flickr after 2015? They will simply continue. Can’t leave The Europeans now. But the project will formally be terminated in 2015.

Now you know.
